New Mexico – The Democratic Party of New Mexico released the following statement after Governor Martinez appointed Wayne Johnson as State Auditor in a clear swipe at the role of the office.
“Today’s appointment clearly demonstrates Governor Martinez’s complete disregard for transparency and accountability by appointing another Republican politician rejected by voters. Additionally, Wayne Johnson is facing his own ethics complaint for ignoring the County Code of Conduct. New Mexico deserves an auditor who will hold Governor Martinez accountable.” said Richard Ellenberg, Chair of the Democratic Party of New Mexico.
Wayne Johnson has a history of breaking the Bernalillo County Code of Conduct. According to a complaint filed with the Albuquerque city clerk, Johnson accepted almost $40,000 in campaign contributions from individuals and companies who do business with the county.
