DPNM: Free Speech Does Not Mean Free From Criticism

Albuquerque, N.M. – Juan Sanchez III, Vice-Chair of the Democratic Party of New Mexico, issued the following statement Friday on Milo Yiannopoulos’ coming speech at the University of New Mexico

“Though the first amendment grants free speech, it does not mean free from criticism,” said Vice-Chair Sanchez, also a current UNM student. “Republican groups who brought a bigoted figure like Milo Yiannopoulos to New Mexico and entertain his hateful and harmful ideas, demonstrate their party’s lack of concern for our diversity and the pride we have in our culture.  Where are Republicans like Governor Martinez to stand against the GOP’s college arm hosting a proudly racist and misogynist speaker?”

Yiannopoulos is most known for his role in promoting the “alt-right” agenda, which is based on white supremacy and hate speech. He is also a contributor to Breitbart News, a fake news organization that promoted Donald Trump for president.
