DPNM Slams Governor for Showing Preference to Campaign Donors, Again

Albuquerque, N.M. –  Following a troubling revelation in the legislature Saturday, Senators took to the floor to recall a bill introduced on behalf of Governor Martinez to benefit her campaign donors.  The governor requested the legislature to pass a bill allowing the state to bypass its own regulations so as to extend the lease on an office building in Albuquerque.  However, she failed to disclose to legislators that she received more than $20,000 in campaign contributions from the building’s owner.

Democratic Party of New Mexico Chairwoman Debra Haaland issued the following statement Saturday:

“This is yet another troubling incident in a line of ethical failures by Governor Martinez and her administration.  There is a clear pattern – Martinez has demonstrated much more concern for the wellbeing of her campaign donors than for everyday. New Mexicans.  It is clear that her only priorities are the ones that benefit her well-connected campaign donors.”

This is not the first time Governor Martinez has shown her preference for her campaign donors. In December, the Governor awarded a former vice-president of WPX Energy, a regular campaign contributor, to serve in her cabinet.

In 2013, the Governor left New Mexico’s most vulnerable citizens without needed behavioral health services when she turned the state’s behavioral system upside down to a give a lucrative contract to another donor.

“Defrauding New Mexican taxpayers is wrong.  Governor  Martinez continues to line her donors’ pockets while New Mexicans continue to suffer from her lack of focus on job creation and the economy,” said Chairwoman Haaland.
