Albuquerque, N.M. – On Saturday, March 10, 2018, delegates to the Democratic Party of New Mexico Pre-Primary Convention will vote to approve the 2018 New Mexico Democratic Party of New Mexico Platform. Generally, state party platforms are an affirmation of values that guide the principles and policies of the members of the Party.
The 2018 platform was developed through a series of listening sessions held in various locations throughout the state in an effort to bring diverse opinions to the table and ensure New Mexicans from every corner of the state had the opportunity to participate in the process. The result is a comprehensive, value-driven platform derived to ensure the viewpoints of rural, urban, traditional, and diverse communities in New Mexico are reflected.
“At the beginning of this process, our committee set out to ensure the platform process is transparent and inclusive, and we found that Democrats are excited to be involved,” said Sharla Parsons, Chair of the Democratic Party of New Mexico Platform Committee. “New Mexicans from across the state have had a strong voice and a hand in the values we express in this platform and the values we hold as a state party.”
Richard Ellenberg, Chair of the Democratic Party of New Mexico, commended the Platform Committee for the thorough process the committee followed saying, “The tremendous effort and energy of the Platform Committee has generated a great deal of excitement about the Platform. I look forward to its adoption as setting forth our principles to help guide the Party and elected Democrats.”
The platform was developed by the Democratic Party of New Mexico Platform Committee, which is made up of a group of individuals elected by the governing body of the State Party and appointed by the Democratic Party of New Mexico Chair Richard Ellenberg.
